Are Your Emotions Really Yours? Discovering Prenatal Patterns

In my practice, I often see what I call a maternal emotional energy imprint. This refers to the emotional energy a child absorbs from their mother from the moment of conception through pregnancy and into birth. A mother’s emotions are naturally shared with her developing baby, often without her even realising it. These early influences can create part of the child’s emotional template, shaping how they respond to life.


I see this imprint in nearly every client I work with, and it is often at the root of self-sabotaging patterns. Most people have no idea that this imprint is present until we trace their challenges back to the time before birth.


Understanding Maternal Emotional Energy Imprints


It makes sense that what a mother feels, thinks, and experiences during pregnancy will affect her baby. This awareness is not about blame or judgement. {As a mother myself, I know we all do the very best we can}. It’s about understanding possible origins of certain emotional patterns, so they can be recognised and transformed.


A Client Example


One of my clients, a 42-year-old woman, came to me struggling with anxiety and low mood. Although there were a lot of issues going on in her life, she felt the anxiety had always been present to some degree. Through muscle-testing, we uncovered a sabotage program that originated while she was in utero, around the second trimester. The phrase that came up was, “I do not wish to live.”


Afterwards, she spoke with her mother, who confirmed that at four months pregnant, her life had been threatened by a neighbour. This was the very time the anxiety imprint had formed. Following our session, my client reported a substantial decrease in her anxiety and felt much lighter.

This is just one of many examples I encounter. Sometimes, emotions that feel overwhelming or “not your own” may actually have roots in experiences from before birth.
